The LG LMV1813ST over-the-range microwave looks pretty boxy and basic. We’re convinced it is in fact pretty basic compared to other units in our lineup. There is nothing that really overwhelmed and impressed us, but if you're replacing an older microwave, it will very likely seem like the most amazing appliance ever made.
Because it is boxy and basic, this machine should be very easy to work with. The control panel is very straightforward. Features you can easily access there include a nice Kids Meal section. No one needs an easy-to-find and easy-to-use mac and cheese button like parents of hungry and finicky toddlers. If this is you, prepare to love this over-the-range microwave. It will put you one button away from macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets or a hot dog.
Sensor cooking options are also easy to find and easy to use, once you get used to them. The humidity levels will let the oven know when to stop heating things like baked potatoes, vegetables, frozen entrees and popcorn.
If you are not yet a fan of sensor cooking, you can always go back to the old and simple way of microwaving with the EZ-On button. The Customer Cook button is nice if you prepare one specific dish over and over. This over-the-range microwave can remember the cooking program so you only have to push one button every time you pop that meal into the oven.
This over-the-range microwave also has a warm hold option, which is a great thing for hectic households. This feature will keep foods warm for up to 90 minutes after their initial cooking cycle. That way everyone gets something warm to eat for supper, no matter when they're ready to eat.
The fan on this unit can be set at two different basic speeds as well as a Turbo mode, which will come in handy for the super-smoky cooktop projects. It is also programmable so you can set the vent to run for a certain amount of time and then shut itself off. The cooktop light is also somewhat versatile with a couple of different intensity levels.
This over-the-range microwave comes in only one color, so it will not fit into as many settings as other units in our lineup. As mentioned, this machine is more boxy than beautiful, but it is fine and functional. Looks are not the total equation, and there are some wonderful design aspects too. The vent is hidden, and that always looks nicer. The fan system can be arranged to recirculate extra-smokey air or move it outside.
LG excels in this category. Their website is informative and well organized, and we love the live chat option. The warranty for this over-the-range microwave is also really great. The main component of this unit is covered for 10 years. That is outstanding.
This is not the most flashy over-the-range microwave, but it is good in many ways. Slow and steady may just win the dependability race in this case, especially with the great warranty backing the LG LMV1813ST.
Pros
A 10-year warranty on the main component shows great confidence.
Cons
One color option could be limiting for design considerations.
This unit lacks some versatility but has great customer service support.
